I've been teaching at River City High School since January 1997, when I took over five sections of Freshman World History (now taught at the Sophomore level) from a wonderful teacher who had to go on disability. Since then, I've taught US History, Government, Geography, Computer Literacy, Health, Drivers Education, and Law in both an Administration of Justice Academy (now defunct) and as a stand-alone class. Two years ago I became chair of the Social Science Department. This year, I'll be teaching Advanced Placement US History, regular US History and a section of Criminal Law/Mock Trial in a 4x4 Block schedule, a first for River City.
I've been the teacher-coach for the Mock Trial team since 1999. In 2000, 2007, 2008, and 2009 River City Mock Trial went to state competition as Yolo County champion. In each of the last two years we defeated another county champion in the statewide tournament. I've also been the advisor to our on-again, off-again Gay Straight Alliance.
My educational path has taken me from Sac City College to UC Berkeley, and I finally received my Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Sacramento State in 1995.
I played, coached, and refereed basketball for many years; alas my knees just don't allow me to play any more (Mrs. Reese is still badgering me about refereeing again). I have rediscovered the joys of cycling, and my partner and I regularly ride for pleasure along the American River Bike Trail. Summers are for travel, Tahoe, or leisurely hours beside a pool, reading thick books with weighty titles.
